2012 Tentative Agreement Overview

There will be a Steering Committee Meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Union Hall.

The Steering Committee consists of all Shop Stewards, OHS&E Reps and Committee persons.

The CAW Negotiations Committee is happy to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with Rio Tinto Alcan. This weekend was a critical time with the expiry of our contract on July 23rd. The parties negotiated a marathon session lasting 29 hours leading to the tentative agreement on Tuesday July 24th at noon.

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

The Bargaining Committee has been meeting since 7:00 a.m., July 23. As of 10:30 a.m. today, July 24, we are optimistic that a tentative agreement will be reached. CAW members are asked to report to work as they normally would and to be patient while we try to work out the details of the new agreement.

The Union took part in Mediation at the Labour Board in Vancouver last week. There were two separate applications involving the impacts that a strike or lock-out would have on the applicants.
