As of 6 a.m. this morning the Company called an emergency meeting with your Union Executive where we were told that Line 7B will shut down effective 5:00 p.m. today and Line 8 will shut down no later than August 30th, 2010. Even though the Company has put a heavy burden on our membership with their abrupt timeline, rest assured your Union Executive is already taking immediate action to ensure our members’ Health & Safety, and rights within the CLA are being adhered to. Immediately following the meeting your Union Executive dispersed to different areas in the plant to inform and answer any questions from the membership. The Union and the Company did a risk assessment at 9 a.m. this morning to make sure every possible safety concern is addressed during this process. A committee was struck today to start meeting with the Company on a full-time basis to ensure the affected employees’ concerns, job placement, etc. are a priority. Remember to keep your mind focused on Health and Safety during this difficult process. Don’t hold back any safety concerns. Raise them immediately to your Union reps or co-workers. It is important to note that the Kitimat Modernization Project has not been given final board approval. If you have any questions or concerns please call your Union hall @632-4611. In solidarity, CAW Local 2301 Executive Issued by CAW Local 2301 August 5th, 2010
