PRE-START MEETINGS vs LEAN MEETINGS

Brothers and Sisters:

Over the last couple of years the Company has been rolling out a Company initiative – LEAN – which does not respect our Joint OHS&E Program or our members.

The Union, at the KKOHS&E Committee, raised the issue that there is no joint agreement on LEAN meetings nor have we agreed to replace pre-start meetings with LEAN meetings.

STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING BULLETIN

The Special Steering committee meeting held on Tuesday, November 16th, 2010, comprised of Union Shop Stewards, OHS&E Reps, and other Union committee reps, gave clear direction to the Union Executive. The Company’s LEAN program is a program designed to reduce good Union jobs and increase Contracting Out. There is nothing in the Company’s LEAN program that helps our members.

Safety pre-shift meetings need to be kept separate from the Company’s LEAN program. Article 20 of the CLA – Safety, Health and Environment – should not be mixed with LEAN.

ATTENTION STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBERS

There will be a special Steering Committee meeting on:

Tuesday, November 16th

7PM

Union Hall

There will be a short presentation on LEAN followed by discussion and debate on the Union’s response to the company’s LEAN initiatives.

All Steering Committee members (i.e. shop stewards, OHS&E reps and committee persons) are encouraged to attend.
