CAW 2301 Delegation to Meet With Alma Union Representatives
As you may already be aware, Rio Tinto Alcan has locked out its workers at its Alma, QC smelter after the employer’s final offer, ahead of the December 31, 2011, contract expiry date, was overwhelmingly rejected by the Alma workers.

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A NEW MEMBER
Please send a written expression of your interest to the Union hall. In your role on the Human Rights Committee you will be assisting and supporting our members with Human Rights issues, in accordance with CAW Policy, our Joint Human Rights Policy and BC Human Rights Law.
The CAW National Union and CAW Council annually offer a total of 25 bursaries for $2,000.00 each.
The bursaries are awarded to sons/daughters of CAW members in good standing entering their first year of full-time post secondary education.
Application forms for these bursaries can be picked up at the Union hall.
The next Shop Stewards Council Meeting is scheduled for:
Thursday, December 15th
7:00 p.m. at the Union Hall.
Area Chief Shop Steward Elections will be held at this meeting. All Shop Stewards are encouraged to attend.

Brothers and Sisters:
There have been a number of issues over the last few months that have raised the frustration level of the membership. When these issues are raised to management the response has been less than accommodating and in actual fact they have been met with contempt and mistrust.
On Thursday, November 10th, the Union Executive held a special meeting to review the candidates and make recommendations to the membership for the upcoming municipal election. There are 4 Mayoral and 12 Councilor candidates running for public office in Kitimat.
The Union has requested that the Company start booking the 2011 vacation scheduling as per the current CLA Article 13 and Letter of Understanding 13-LU-#1.
1. The normal vacation scheduling period will be the two (2) months prior to the start of the calendar year (November 1st).
The following are a number of questions and answers, which frequently come up as per vacation scheduling.
Any members interested in being on the Bargaining Committee for 2012 Negotiations are asked to submit their names along with an application of interest to the Union Hall no later than :
Friday, October 21st by 12:00 noon.
A decision will be made at the next Executive meeting and successful candidates will be notified after October 26th.
