Since the last negotiations bulletin, our Committee has physically moved up to the Haisla Court apartments where we have our caucus room and where face to face negotiations will take place. We are working full-time Monday to Friday researching and developing our demands as well as planning our strategy for the months to come.

The proposed bylaw amendment would see changes in the nomination and election of the Chief Area Reps.

The position of Chief Area Rep for each Organization (ORG) may be any member in good standing (does not have to necessarily be an OHS&E rep) nominated from their respective ORG and shall be elected by the members of that ORG.

2012 Family Education Program

2012 Family Education Program



The Family Education Program is a one-week program held at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario.

The program is open to all CAW members in good standing and offers something for everyone in your immediate family, with different programs specially geared for teenagers and children.

There is also time set aside to enjoy a variety of recreation activities with your family.

The following motion was passed unanimously at the Membership meeting held on Thursday, January 26th at the Union hall:

“That the membership offers an hour of pay per member each pay cheque to support the Brothers and Sisters in Alma until either the end of the lockout or July 1st at the latest.”

In recent weeks your Negotiations Committee has been meeting to start the process leading up to the completion of a new collective agreement.

On Thursday and Friday, January 19th and 20th, the CAW 2301 delegation to Alma met with CAW and United Steelworkers representatives and Alma smelter workers.

All of the meetings between the CAW 2301 delegation and Quebec representatives were moderated and translated by Pierre Deschenes, President of the Mine/Mill Council. These meetings would not have been possible without Brother Deschenes’ assistance.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to help your Negotiating Committee to determine where the membership’s priorities lie in the 2012 Negotiations.

We are beginning the process of distributing these questionnaires.
