Nominations are now open for all positions on the Shop Stewards Council and the Grievance Committee.

We continue to face ongoing process disruptions as we attempt to keep moving forward. Things which have never seemed to be a problem in the past are being made into issues by the Company requiring time and effort to resolve.
By now active and retired members should have received information packages regarding nominations for the Rio Tinto Alcan Pension Plan Committee. Included in these packages will be an election ballot in which to choose one of the listed candidates as your pension plan committee member (retired members will receive different ballot forms then our active members).
CAW LOCAL 2301 SCHOLARSHIP
THE ROSS SLEZAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Application forms for the above (2) scholarships are now available at the Union hall.
These awards are open to students proceeding from Grade 12 to a post-secondary institute. The recipient of these awards must be the son, daughter or legal ward of a CAW Local 2301 member in good standing.
The membership of CAW 2301 conducted Elections on May 2nd & 8th, 2012 for Executive Board positions, ORG Chief Area OHS&E Rep and CAW Convention Delegates. As a result, the following have been declared elected by the CAW 2301 Elections Committee for the 2012 to 2015 three-year term:

Business Agent – Martin McIlwrath

The 2012 Bargaining Demands Package will be presented for endorsement by the membership at these meetings.

Nominations are now open for the position of Alternate on the Grievance Committee.
Nominations forms are available at the Union Hall and will close at the special meeting on May 16th. If necessary, an election will be held at this meeting.
Last week the Union was approached by the Company to go back to 2009 workforce levels to give them flexibility for production. At this time the Union group represented by all four shifts had some concerns with the Company’s proposal which included tapping during the scheduled crust breaks and metal measure.
